Chief Mountain

Chief Mountain

This is Chief Mountain.
The "raconteur" on the boat told us that this is the TRIPLE POINT, the meeting of three divides, drainages that lead to the Pacific, the Atlantic (via the Gulf of Mexico) and the Arctic Oceans (via Hudson Bay). I've done a little looking at my maps and this is not indicated there. And I have not found the three creeks that drain in separate oceans that he said were there. I'm going to order the USGS Quadrangle map for the area and that would surely show it.

Well, I have the maps. The raconteur was right about the fact that such a mountain exists, but Chief Mountain isn't it! If one goes about 26 miles south and a bit east one finds mountain Triple Divide Peak. This is it!
There are a number of creeks, but Cut Bank Creek goes to the Atlantic, Red Eagle Creek goes to the Arctic and Nyack Creek goes to the Pacific.
I'm going to try to get this information to the ranger/guide.
