I would like to make this page available to people that have something they want to say but it may not be in publishable form. I expect it to be a readable discussion about some facet of bromeliad culture, perhaps a preliminary report which is intended to lead to a later publication.
Graphing the rainfall data of various "mediterranean" regions does reveal some rather respectable differences. They are plotted in groups of similar areas. Dills chose five Mediterranean areas, NW, NE, E, SE and S. Then there is Australia, Chile, South Africa and California.

It seems to me that most of the areas have the dry summer, moderate winter rain that is characteristic of the "mediterranean" climate. There are several exceptions. Perth Australia seems too wet in winter to qualify. Also the eastern mediterranean area with Beirut and Jerusalem seem extraordinarily wet in winter. (Dills)
The grayed-out area in the Annual Rainfall chart is the generally accepted range of precipitation in mediterranean areas. Comments urged.
