Sub-shrub to shrub. Common. Grows on rocky hillsides, cliffs, canyon slopes, disturbed areas and borders of chaparral.
There are many local forms and occurences of hybridizing.
Native of Oregon and California. Leaves are lance-shaped to oblong, toothed, sticky, glossy and dark green, up to three inches long.
