San Luis Obispo Botanical Garden Aloe plicatilis

Aloe plicatilis

[No common Name]

Liliaceae

Does not look like an Easter Lily or a daylily, but they are all related. The lily family has many succulent members and the South African aloes are among them. A. plicatilis is a 5' or more tall shrub with foot long fan-like leaves and orange-red flowers which bloom in late winter here in California.

This is a frost tender plant and should not be planted outdoors in the North County of San Luis Obispo. It does make a great container plant in a large clay pot or a wine barrel.
