I am not a reviewer or an expert bromeliophile. I would call myself a somewhat informed amateur who was a professional chemist. But until I get a more informed review I would like to post this view.
It is a medium sized book, 9 1/2 inches by 12inches. it is printed on slick but non-glossy, very heavy paper, probably 90 weight.
There are 14 genera, using names from the 1880's. It has a color plate from the Revue Horticole and 39 black and white plates and one route of travel map.
It covers 140 species in 14 1880 genera. They are:
1 Karatas (now Neoregelia), 1 Greigia, 2 Ananas, 1 Chevalliera (Now Aechmea), 7 Aechmea, 1 Quesnelia, 24 Pitcairnia, 11 Puya, 4 Sodoroi (now Guzmania), 17 Caraguata (now Guzmania), 2 Guzmania, 2 Catopsis, 65 Tillandsia and 2 Thecophyllum (now Vriesea)
I am very impressed by the book and the somewhat out-of-date nomenclature doesn't bother me. I would strongly recommend it if one wants field data from one of the very famous early botanist explorers and can put up with the age of the data. I'm quite sure that the species descriptions are accurate.
I have placed six pictures of various parts of the book on this page.
I would welcome elaboration on this review by others.
