Paul Wingert of Farmington Hills, Michigan sent me this picture of a ripening infructescence of Aechmea phanerophlebia. The ripe capsules are visible with a different color. They appear white but are really a light lavender.
"This has been a fantastic plant, the inflorescence has kept its intense red-pink color right until the berries ripen to a pale lavender."
