"This is a genus that is rarely found in cultivation although it contains about 100 known species. When the plant blooms, it creates a fiery rainbow effect of yellows, oranges and reds.
The genus is so unusual that many taxonomists believe a fifth subfamily of bromeliads should be created specifically for it." Ken Marks
