The Assembly

The Assembly

Occasionally a decision is made at the Federal level that has implications at the state level which are then promptly ignored because it is not in the best interest of the politicians.

A particularly obvious example of this is the existence of the State Assembly.

When the Senate and the Assembly were chosen differently, one by population and the other by county, there was a kind of excuse for having the two bodies. It resembled the the Federal houses of the Senate and Representatives. But when the Supreme Court invalidated this distinction and both the State houses were elected by the population, this distinction was destroyed. There was no longer any excuse for maintaining the bicameral system. One of the two should have been abandoned. I would recommend the Assembly because we would save much more money.

This could be a strong participant in a financial bailout of the State and in the long run would benefit the little people, like me.

There is a scandalous system of retirement benefits that would be saved along with the salaries. I suspect their "expenses" are inexcusably high. What could we do with all this money? We could bail out the State University system. I do not like the direction it has taken since it converted from the State College system to the State University system. This did little but increase expenses since there was an unneeded inflation of expenses since a "University" should do research instead of teach.
The State system should stick to giving a solid undergraduate education. This is a valuable and honorable thing to do!
