This is the part of the Basic Flying School class of 43-E that was selected to go to single engine school.
I'm fourth from the left, front row.
Richard Grant is standing on the far left. To my left is Harry Baer. He had to bail out when Grant cut his tail off, fooling around!
Next to Harry is Jesse Gray from South Carolina. They had a floor anchored scale attached to a belt around our waist to measure leg strength. I did really well lifting 1690 pounds. But Jesse broke the scale at 2200 pounds with the people hollering, "Stop!! Stop!!"
And the next one is Sol Abrams. He washed out in Advanced and the next time I saw him sixteen months later we were on the boat home. He was a rescued a B-24 navigator POW from Ploesti Romania.
