This was taken when I was at Roosevelt Junior High School on North Tenth Street at Eleventh Street in Fargo ND, probably about 1937.
We moved to 1314 Sixth Ave. So. in Fargo, July 1934. I entered Agassiz Junior High. I did not have my school records from LaMoure so they put me in 7B3, the lowest section. When my records arrived a week or so later, the principal came down and got me and moved me to 7B1!
We moved to 916 1/2 North Broadway soon after and I had to transfer to Roosevelt Jr. High in the middle of the first six week period.
I had a woman, Sigrid Oien, for four classes in the English area. She gave me 4 D's that first period, the first I had ever gotten. I have never forgiven her for what I thought were totally unjustified grades. She had little to go on and assumed the worst. It was bad enough coming from a small school in farm country to the "big city" without that!
I am grateful for the many spelling bees we had. Memories of this time are rather faint.
Mother died in August 1936 as I was entering ninth grade.
