I went to Long's Drug
during a rare May rainstorm.
Here is the newspaper story about it.
While there I met a young couple that looked a bit confused so I
struck up a conversation with them. And he asked, "Is there anything to do in San Luis Obispo?
I detected the French accent. I was really stuck for an answer
since it was raining.
So I finally said, "Well, not much in the rain. But if you would
like to visit my home, my wife would be pleased to meet you, I know."
The girl seemed justifiably a bit suspicious but the man spoke to her (in French) and she agreed. I said we were on an errand but would be there a half hour later. I gave them a map and we went our separate ways.
We got home a half hour later and there they were waiting for us.
They came in and we talked and we talked. I don't remember but
I'm sure we offered them coffee and showed them around our "estate", including the English Library
we built for my wife.
We had a most enjoyable afternoon during which we mentioned our
favorite steak house in Nipomo, Jocko's, and gave them a map to get there.
And then it was Bon Voyage.
They were on their way around the world. They had left France for
New York, then San Francisco. They rented a car and that's how they wound up here, after coming down
our famous Highway One, the Coast Highway.
They were going to Australia then probably to Japan and other
places on their way back to France.
We heard from then later and they did stop at Jocko's and agreed with our fantastic assessment of the place!
