secund (adj.)

Secund refers to the flowers being on only one side. This is Tillanfdsia secunda. It is called that by the way the flowers turn down as the bloom develops.

Note the way they turn down, starting on the left side. The blooms are such a dark blue that they are effectively black!

The plants in the background are in my "hospital" section. They were almost destroyed last summer and are recovering!!
