Aechmea fruits often turn dark when they are ready to be harvested.The berries should practically fall off at this stage.
And when you squeeze it, three or four seeds should come out in a kind of jelly.It is my opinion that they can be planted this way or they can be washed, dried and planted.
The jelly may be helpful but is not necessary.
