Here is a Fosterella micrantha. 2003.0418 Dr. Walter Till was very helpful in deciding whether or not this was properly named. Here are two communications from him. the second occasioned by my sending him these two flower photos.
"This cannot be done from a photograph. Check the following characters in your plants: 1 Floral bracts 5-9 mm long, mostly exceeding the pedicels, attenuate = F. micrantha 1* Floral bracts not more than 2 mm long, mostly shorter than the pedicels, apiculate = F. penduliflora. Otherwise the two species are very similar but are geographically widely separated."And, "Well, the bract seems to equal the pedicel, hence: F. micrantha." Thank you very much Dr. Till.
It may be of some interest how I made these photographs. I took the flower from the stem and placed it on my scanner with a small prop to keep the top of the scanner from crushing it. I then scanned it at 600 dpi. I changed the image size to 4 x 6 inches and the dpi to 72 to get these images. I did a little enhancement to make the parts clearer.
The scale is in millimeters.
