Aechmea ornata var. nationalis

I read Warwick's description of the "two apple" trick for producing a bloom. I immediately thought of this plant that hasn't bloomed for me for probably fifteen years! So I decided to try it. I gave it two quartered apples in a plastic bag for fourteen days. It's throwing a bloom!!
I'll share the picture when it blooms!!
Ah, shucks. Wouldn't you know it! It bloomed while we were in Canada! So I'll use the picture from 1981.
